I thought instead of starting a new thread, I'd just post it here. I went into my snake room this morning to check on my hatchlings, I was technically checking one woma coz he is sloughing & happened to glance at the swcp enclosure & couldnt see him anywhere, I nearly swallowed my own tongue, I thought, he's hiding amongst the leaves & I just cant see him, so I gutted the enclosure & the little bugger wasnt there. Then I was thinking "how in the hell am I going to find this animal? He's so little & I wouldnt say our house is escape proof, let alone the enclosure, so I started pulling the room apart. Its a spare bedroom, but the its all on wheels, so I can roll it into another room if we have visitors. So I dont even know where to start, & I remember reading someones thread the other day on APS about how they found their adult woma curled up on their bed & Ive found that my other SWCP always seems to look for higher ground, so I carefully start pulling pillows off the spare bed & there he was curled up in between the pillows.
Phew....huge sigh of relief, I felt like the biggest scum on earth for allowing it to happen, I had all these visions of treading on him & squishing him, or sucking him up in the vacuum cleaner, so from now on I will be triple checking, to make sure there are no tiny gaps he can get out of, I underestimated his resourcefulness.
I think I've just been incredibly lucky with Zeppelyn in the 3 yrs I've had her. She never escaped as a baby, but in November last year, she got one of the bottom doors open, while we were away for a couple of days, we got home in the wee hours of the morning, to a kitchen that had been ransacked, we thought we had been broken into, there was stuff everywhere, there had been a few bottles of alcohol on top of the overhead cupboards & they were smashed on the floor, then we quickly figured out the snake was missing, she had obviously made her way through the kitchen, knocked everything off the cupboards on her way & then into the laundry & got on to the shelf above the sink & curled up on the towels. Only took 5 minutes to find her, was so relieved she was fine, then promptly fixed the latch on the bottom door, so she couldn't just push it open.
So the score is Zeppelyn 1, Ziggy 1, Lynsey 0, but I will ensure I keep it at this from now on.
