you would think DEC would be too busy with illegal keepers to hound the legal ones

Just read what I posted and made no sence, sorry.
There was a post on gumtree last week advertising ball pythons and albino retics in Rockingham, but was taken down soon after.

Ive always thought, if we get a wave of inspections its because DEC are bored and haven't made any busts lately.
I'll like to see DEC work on getting the bird licencing system back into order since they are now in charged of it again.
Plenty of illegal/ off Licenced birds on the market and dodgy pet stores.

apparently the advertisements for exotics are usually fraudsters and the animals don't actually exist.

I saw thy exact ad on gumtree last night and thought it looked a bit suss. Was a couple other dodgy ads on there too. Think there was one about selling tadpoles and others with barely any correct spelling that caught my attention.
Let's get rowdy

One of me mates sent me that URL today, gave me a good laugh.
They have made themselves sound like they know a bit about reptiles but don't know how to ID reptiles..
Makes you wonder what the "bigger beardie" is?

Well as some of you already know Gum tree seems a good place to dispose of illegal animals at inflated prices.

This is actually very important I reckon. Any illegal sources of reptiles or amphibians should definitely be brought to DEC’s attention.

You can bet your boots these are stolen animals rather than wild caught.  Catching reptiles in the wild requires skill, effort, time and often a fair bit of travel and its consequent expenses. If the public outlets are hammered and it all has to stay well underground, then there will be less opportunity for trade in illegal animals and a corresponding reduction in the incentives for stealing reptiles.

Anyone who buys an illegal reptile, be it on the keeping list or not or even an exotic, is helping to support and encourage reptile theft.  While outlets exist for animals that are illegal to keep, the same outlets can and will be utilised to profit from the sale of stolen animals.  Help keep it all underground and you will help keep it small, thereby reducing the amount of reptile and amphibian theft.

The kid that put that ad up is a moron, no 2 ways about it going by his posts on APS yesterday. He obviously hasn't even read a book or the licence conditions that came with the licence before going out gun ho and snapping up the animals from gumtree. Then tops it off by trying to sell the dragon for more than what he paid for all the animals combined. If he had read a book and had a genuine interest he would have seen straight away it didn't look like a baby beardie. His actions were so stupid that APS thought he was just trolling and trying to get a rise out of people and has since been suspended.

Hopefully DEC talk to the parent that signed the licence and fill them in on what needs to happen in the future if they let him have another animal again.

I was against the rule of having to be 18 to get a licence but after seeing this and the APS posts I think there is good reason for it. The best thing that can happen to him is he will loose his money and have the animal surrendered to DEC, hopefully the other bearded dragon is on the other persons licence he bought it off or he's gonna loose that one too.

i agree with some of what you are saying and i have to say having the minimum licence age 18 is not the answer! the acts of a few should not reflect us all! i was thoroughly disappointed when i saw the keeping list on the cat 2. maybe if licences had a cooling of period before you could buy any animal?

I've always been a fan of having to sit a multiple choice quiz like your learners to get your first license.
Just so people actually have to understand about dealers, transfers, returns etc. to get a license in the first place.
