Enclosure size?
« on: February 07, 2011, 06:30:25 AM »
Hi There

Was just wondering what the general rule of thumb is in regards to enclosure size for a Stimmi?

I currently have 2 Females living the the following enclosure pictured below (60cmx60cmx45cm) they are almost a year old now and are close to 80 cm in lengh. I have heard the Stimmis dont like big enclosures? do I need to start looking at a bigger enclosure? any light on this would be much appretiated

Sorry about the size of the pic  ??? dont know how to resize it

Thanks

I keep two stimi's in a 1200Lx600Wx600H. The amount they move around at night I probably wouldn't want to house them in anything smaller than that together. I'd probably lean more towards one stimi in an enclosure the size of yours. But see what some of the more experienced have to say....

According to the book 'Keeping Australian Reptiles in Captivity' the minimum enclosure size recommended for 2 adult stimsons is 600x400x400. Personally I think that as long as they are both less than 1M this will be okay, and as you have 2 females they shouldn't ever fight. Just be careful how you feed them, 1 at a time, and you should be fine.

That being said, I think a bigger enclosure (not enormous) couldn't hurt, just observe them and decide for yourself.
